Jiangsu Cement Quality Inspection Center to Carry out Early Warning Supervision and Spot Check of Water-soluble Hexavalent Chromium in Cement

Recently, Jiangsu Province Cement Quality Inspection Center successfully completed the province's water-soluble hexavalent chromium in cement early warning supervision and spot checks. The objects of this early warning supervision and spot check are cement production enterprises in the whole province, and the 212 batches of 198 enterprises in 13 regions are randomly checked in total. The samples include Portland cement, ordinary Portland cement, composite Portland cement, white Portland cement, general cement clinker and other types, and the test items are water-soluble hexavalent chromium content, the research items are cement product varieties, cement clinker doping ratio, clinker firing belt refractory brick material, cement grinding system type, cement grinding body and lining board material, etc., mainly for cement.

Recently, Jiangsu cement quality inspection center successfully completed the province's cement water-soluble hexavalent chromium early warning supervision and spot check work.

The objects of this early warning supervision and spot check are cement production enterprises in the whole province, and the 212 batches of 198 enterprises in 13 regions are randomly checked in total. The samples include Portland cement, ordinary Portland cement, composite Portland cement, white Portland cement, general cement clinker and other types, and the test items are water-soluble hexavalent chromium content, the research projects include the types of cement products, the proportion of cement clinker, the refractory brick material of clinker firing zone, the type of cement grinding system, the material of cement grinding body and inner lining board, etc. The research and analysis are mainly conducted on the current situation of water-soluble hexavalent chromium content in cement, the actual content distribution and related factors that may affect it, and actively cooperate with the trial implementation of the national standard "Limit of Water-soluble Chromium (VI) in Cement and Its Determination Method, research and determine the environmental protection limit value of cement heavy metals suitable for China's national conditions. At the same time, early warning and reminder are provided to cement clinker production and cement grinding enterprises, urging them to carry out chromium-free and low-chromium technological transformation in a timely manner for hexavalent chromium sources such as clinker firing belt refractory materials, grinding body and lining materials of grinding system, and strictly fulfill the environmental protection public welfare obligations of cement enterprises.

It is reported that water-soluble hexavalent chromium is a harmful heavy metal in cement. It can penetrate the cell membrane and has a strong oxidation effect, which can seriously damage the digestive tract, respiratory tract and skin mucosa of the human body, and even have a carcinogenic effect. After the cement is mixed with water, the water-soluble chromium contained in it dissolves rapidly. If the fresh cement paste, mortar or concrete in the plastic stage is directly contacted without reasonable labor protection, it will lead to skin allergy and form cement eczema that is difficult to cure. Excessive intake of hexavalent chromium may also lead to the loss of oxygen carrying function of human red blood cells and cause internal asphyxia. In addition, water-soluble hexavalent chromium is highly toxic. Once the soil or groundwater around cement structures containing excessive chromium is polluted by chromium, it will take a long time to take special measures to eliminate it.
